Norm Tessier Cabinets uses hand-applied finishes so that the natural beauty of the wood is fully enhanced. As with any hand-application, there can be subtle variations in the application, the absorption of the stain, and the glaze detailing. We also spray finishes with paint applications, and stain when we are looking for different designs and textures.
Stain
Norm Tessier Cabinets' stained finishes are formulated to enhance the wood grain and create rich depth and color. An extremely durable, catalyzed conversion varnish sealer and topcoat are then applied to create a protective surface with a beautiful luster.
Stain/Glaze
Glaze is a semi-transparent color applied over the stain for added dimension and depth. Along profiles and corners, the glaze highlights and accentuates the details of the door. Glazing is an artistic, hand-detailing technique that will exhibit unique, subtle variations.
Paint
Paint finishes are selected for their crisp, classic styling and for use as an accent color. This full-coverage enamel has a smooth texture on Maple. When applied to Oak, the texture of the grain is visible. Wood naturally expands and contracts with seasonal changes in humidity and is more apparent with painted finishes at joints. This is a natural characteristic of painted finishes on wood.
Paint/Accent
Accent is applied to the door only along profiles and corners where it is intended to be visible, to accent the details of the door.
The base paint color is not affected. “Accent” is an artistic, hand-detailing technique that will exhibit unique, subtle variations.
Paint/Glaze
Glaze is a semi-transparent color applied over the paint to create a subtle wash of color with added dimension and depth. Along profiles and corners, the glaze highlights and accentuates the details of the door. Glazing is an artistic, hand-detailing technique that will exhibit unique, subtle variations.
Distress
This collection of stain/glaze finishes is hand-detailed to create an “antiqued” appearance with beautiful dimension and depth. Before finish is applied, corners and edges are softened and the surface of the wood is “distressed” to create an aged and timeworn character.
Heavy Distress
This collection of stain/glaze finishes includes special hand-detailing techniques to create a rustic, timeworn look. Doors and drawer fronts are heavily distressed with chisel marks, joint cracks and rasp marks. This is an artistic, hand-detailed finish that will exhibit unique, subtle variations with each application.
